Located at the eastern edge of the West Kowloon Cultural District, the Xiqu Centre is Hong Kong’s new venue for Cantonese opera and other forms of Chinese traditional theatre (xiqu).
The welcoming two-theatre venue offers something for all audiences, with world-class performances by some of the best troupes in the region presented in the Grand Theatre with 1,073 seats, and more intimate introductory experiences in the Tea House Theatre with 200 seats. There are also regular programmes of film screenings, workshops, talks and exhibitions, as well as guided tours. The venue has a selection of gift shops and restaurants, and a large open atrium where visitors can congregate and relax.
Tea House Theatre
Designed to recreate the warm, authentic atmosphere of Hong Kong’s early 20th century tea houses, this small Chinese-style theatre offers an intimate experience that is perfect for visitors and audiences new to the art form. The regular programme of special 90-minute introductory performances by the resident Rising Stars Tea House Troupe, features a selection of excerpted performances, expert narration, and a complimentary serving of tea and dim sum.
It’s a great place for a unique corporate charter cultural experience.
