Lantau Island: From Shopping to Scenery
Those who are either attending exhibitions at AsiaWorld-Expo, or looking for something to do before an afternoon flight, won’t want to miss an opportunity to explore one of the most peaceful and picturesque parts of Hong Kong – Lantau Island.
Located just a short ride away from Hong Kong International Airport, Citygate Outlets is Hong Kong’s largest outlet mall, offering heart-racing discounts on over 80 international brands. Those seeking a spiritual experience of a different kind can head to the same area to board the Ngong Ping 360 – Hong Kong’s spectacular tourism attraction that features a stunning cable car ride across the island’s lush mountains. The 25-minute journey offers sweeping views encompassing the airport, South China Sea, picturesque mountains and valleys, and the awe-inspiring Big Buddha statue. They’ll disembark at the culturally themed Ngong Ping Village, which incorporates several major attractions: Walking with Buddha, and the Ngong Ping Tea House, along with an array of eateries and shops.
Delegates can also visit the famous Po Lin Monastery nearby, and view the world’s tallest seated outdoor bronze Buddha, majestically perched atop 268 steps. A short walk away is Wisdom Path, where an ancient prayer is inscribed on a series of wooden columns. And, once they’ve finished exploring Lantau’s majestic surroundings, Hong Kong International Airport, and its array of hotels, is just a short trip away.
[ Remarks: The Big Buddha is currently undergoing renovations and the areas in the vicinity of the Big Buddha statue will be closed during the maintenance period. All other religious ceremonies and events will continue as usual, please check the official website before you visit. ]
