Ngong Ping 360 adds spice to life for visiting Indian executives
One of India's largest and most successful pharmaceutical firms is Piramal Enterprises, formerly Piramal Healthcare. With annual sales of more than US$700 million, it is one of the world's top 10 pharmaceutical manufacturers and the largest contract manufacturer of any kind in India.
In 2010 Piramal asked Thomas Cook India to organise an incentive package in Hong Kong for 1,000 guests. Thomas Cook in turn asked Ngong Ping 360 to host a half-day excursion, with a brief that included something unique: an Indian/Chinese banquet.
To ensure exclusivity for the Piramal guests, the cableway was opened half an hour before schedule, conveying them to Ngong Ping Village for a visit to the Giant Buddha and Po Lin Monastery. All guests received a visitor kit that included a welcome letter from the Hong Kong Tourism Board, a Ngong Ping 360 souvenir gift and a 10% discount voucher for Ngong Ping souvenir shops.
The key challenge for the Ngong Ping 360 hospitality team was to serve a specially designed Indian/Chinese buffet lunch to more than 600 people inside one hour, to fit their tight schedule. Indian chefs brought in by Thomas Cook worked alongside Chinese chefs from Ngong Ping 360 to provide a buffet lunch that included predominantly vegetarian dishes such as salad, spring rolls, fried rice and noodles, with a couple of chicken dishes. Chili chicken and Manchurian vegetables were among the unusual dishes not normally found on a Hong Kong menu.
The lunch ran smoothly and all guests were en route by cable car from Ngong Ping to Tung Chung no later than 1pm, grateful to Ngong Ping 360 for a dramatic excursion and a delicious meal.
