World Congress of Nephrology 2013

For nephrologists all over the world, the biennial World Congress of Nephrology (WCN) is a must-attend event. The congress is an important meeting place for healthcare professionals for sharing scientific research on the function and diseases of the kidney. The congress was arranged by the Brussels-based International Society of Nephrology (ISN).

The organiser required that the host city should offer excellent facilities and infrastructure for a high-level meeting of this kind, that it must have a leading position in terms of the diagnosis and treatment of nephrology and that the city must be easy to reach from all over the world.

Hong Kong could easily deliver since the city has several major convention and exhibition venues and a wide variety of choices for accommodation. With three of Asia’s top five universities, Hong Kong is a regional hub for science in general and nephrology research in particular. Furthermore, the Hong Kong International Airport serves half of the world’s population within five hours of flying time. The city is also a gateway to China.

“Hong Kong was the best city – it was a fairly easy choice for us.”

Luca Segantini Executive Director, International Society of Nephrology

“We were very happy with the overall success of the WCN in Hong Kong and can say that indeed the objectives were fulfilled. Hong Kong has it all.”

Wessel Nieuwenweg Congress Director, International Society of Nephrology

“Hong Kong is a scientific hub and an ideal place for scientific congresses.”
