About Lantau Island
Lantau is Hong Kong's largest island and home to green and cultural treasures as well as some of the territory's most popular attractions.
In addition to Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok, northern Lantau is home to the town and shopping district of Tung Chung, tourist attractions and MICE facilities such as Hong Kong Disneyland and Ngong Ping 360. Leading venues and hotels on the island also include AsiaWorld-Expo, Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, Disney's Hollywood Hotel, Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott Hotel, Novotel Citygate Hong Kong, the Regal Airport Hotel and many more.
Much of the Lantau area remains rural, unspoiled and dominated by dramatic mountains, picturesque coastline, traditional temples and fishing villages, wild hiking trails and expansive country parks.
With a relatively low population density, most islanders live in the newly developed and fast growing towns of Tung Chung in the north and Discovery Bay in the south.
Lantau enjoys excellent transport links with the rest of Hong Kong via the Airport Express and MTR railways, super highway for cars, buses and taxis, and high-speed ferries to downtown Hong Kong, Macau and Mainland China.
